Le Premier Disque by Robert Delaunay
I chose to recreate Le Premier Disque by Robert Delauney. The artwork is a prime example of abstract work. He used different colors to create a darker color theme. Robert Delaunay is a French artist. He is known for using strong colors wanted to create this project because it seemed simple.
When I started the project, I wanted to use a lot of different colors from the original art piece. The idea is that a person is lost/confused in a world of color all around him. I've also seen some other artworks of Delaunay's and thought it would be fun to recreate one of his. I also wanted to do it because it is simple. It took me faster than expected to finish it.
I started off with 6 project sketches. I mixed in different ideas from the project sketches and came up with the painting inside of my head. I used a canvas and started drawing the circle using a pencil. I also used acrylic to paint the circle and the background. I finished it off with 2 areas for each color on the background.
1. I chose to recreate this artwork because it is simple and fun to create. I wanted to symbolize being lost in a world of color.
2. Confusion, happiness, and chaos. I changed the colors because I felt like the original ones were too boring.
3. Complimentary
4. Materials and style. I changed these because the original was too boring and dreary. I wanted to add more life and joy to the artwork.
